Questions

What people ask us

How do I keep pests out of my house?

Start with the gaps. Seal cracks around pipes, doors and windows. Fix leaks, because bugs love damp spots. Keep food in tight containers. Trim shrubs back from the walls. Clear gutters so water drains away. In hot, humid weather, pests move indoors to find water. A local provider can check your home and show you where the weak spots are.

Is pest treatment safe for my kids and pets?

It can be, when the provider follows the product label and the law. Ask what products they plan to use. Ask where they will apply them. Ask how long kids and pets should stay out of the area. A good answer is clear and specific. A red flag is a provider who will not name the product or says the label does not matter. Ask before you hire.

Will my homeowners insurance pay for pest problems?

Often it does not. Many policies treat pests, termites and slow damage as home upkeep, not covered events. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a raccoon tearing through a roof in a storm. Check your policy or ask your agent. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Keep photos, notes and every written quote you get.

What should I ask a provider before I hire them?

Ask if they are licensed in your state and insured. Ask what pest they found and how they know. Ask what the plan is, how long it takes and what it costs. Ask if follow-up visits are part of the price. A good provider answers plainly and puts the quote in writing. Walk away if they rush you or dodge questions.

What happens during the first visit?

The provider looks at the inside and outside of your home. They check the attic, crawl space or slab edges, the yard and any damp areas. They ask where you have seen signs. Then they explain what they found and what they suggest. You should get a written quote before any work starts. You can say no and still keep the quote.

How do I know if I have mice, rats or something bigger?

Listen and look. Scratching in walls or the attic at night often means rodents. Small dark droppings and chewed wires are other signs. Heavy thumping or torn vents may point to larger wildlife, like raccoons or squirrels. Take photos if you can. A provider can confirm what it is and explain the safest, legal way to deal with it.

Does the season change when I should call?

Yes. Know the season. Hot, humid summers bring ants, roaches and crickets indoors. Heavy rain and storm season can push pests and rodents into homes. Mild winters mean many pests never fully go away. Termites can be active when it warms up. Do not wait for a perfect month. Request an estimate when you first see signs.

What warning signs should make me say no?

Be careful if a provider pushes you to sign today. Be careful if the price is far lower than every other quote. Watch for no written quote, no license number, or no clear plan. Also watch for scare talk about damage you cannot see. A fair provider explains the problem, shows proof and lets you take time to decide.
